Fort Edmonton Park
Zombie Apocalypse Tour
1885 Street
1885 Street of Fort Edmonton Park (called Fort Deadmonton for the purpose of this zombie apocalypse survival guide), is probably the best street of all to outfit yourself with defensive items, clothing, food, and other essentials.
In one building alone you will find axes, guns, pickaxes, shovels, building material, wood stoves, tools, and more--a one-stop shop for shoring up the security of your Fort Deadmonton home and making sure that defensive weapons are available to keep it safe.
It is also a place to raise and keep livestock. There are already cows, horses, roosters, turkeys, pigs, and other animals that make their home on this street in the available barns and pens.
Kenneth McDonald House
More info coming
Great spot with one major flaw; all the large ground floor windows. A lot of material will need to be used to ensure those windows do not provide easy access to the dead.
Having said that, this home has everything you need for a family to survive comfortably during a zombie apocalypse: Outhouse, water pump with well water access, wood-burning stove and heaters, comfortable beds, warm clothing, and a great playroom for kids.
Mounted Police Jailhouse
More info coming
The jailhouse is an important building, but it shouldn't be wasted on locking away criminals. Instead, when going to bed at night, lock yourself in.
Windows are barred, doors are solid, there are separate rooms (cells), where two additional doors add extra layers of security. This is the place to lock your worries out and get a good night's rest.
Jasper House Hotel
More info coming
Jasper House Hotel on 1885 street of Fort Edmonton Park, can provide all the comforts of home for several families. It's full brick exterior, and small windows also provides extra security.
To further secure building, board up all entrances and windows on main floor. Around back, remove three bottom-most steps of stairway leading up to second floor; zombies will have a hard time navigating that gap.
Sanderson Blacksmith
More info coming
Sanderson & Looby Blacksmith and Wheelright shop is the type of place that will be important to the future of your Fort Deadmonton home. Here you will be able to make bars to fortify windows and doors, and nails to repair roofs and other wooden structures. You can also create new defensive weapons to supplement what is currently on hand.
Upstairs is a living quarters, with wood-burning stove and heaters, several beds, tub, washbowls, and more. Easily secure by barricading one set of stairs and several steps from the other staircase.
McDougall's General Store

Crazy, big windows up front, but nothing but a tiny one in back. Find a way to block those and you have yourself a good little spot to reside.
At the very least, you will find some great defensive items to help protect yourself against zombies; axes, pitchforks, pickaxes, etc. There's also clothing, sewing supplies, gardening tools, dishes, and more.

Secord Fur Store / Warehouse
More info coming
Small building that is easily heated by the word-burning stove. The big front windows are a concern, though. Board these up and leave the top, smaller ones to allow daylight to get in.
The main benefit here is the large inventory of animal furs--sew up warm clothing for winter. The warehouse out back also offers many animal traps. Use these to acquire dinner, and also to catch zombies before they close in on Fort Edmonton Park.
Ross Brothers Hardware
More info coming
Ross Brothers Hardware is one of the most important stores in Fort Edmonton Park. With its wide variety of tools, nails, rope, etc, you will find all you need to help fortify the other buildings in the park.
You will also find traps to help feed the fort's residents, wood stoves to add to other buildings that need non-electrical heat and a way to cook, a wide variety of defensive weapons (including guns,) and more. Make the hardware store one of your first stops to see all it can provide.
MacDonald's Carpentry Shop
More info coming
Another very important shop on Fort Edmonton Park's 1885 street. This wood working shop has all the tools that will help you to, not only fortify other buildings, but also make defensive items, furniture and carts.
The best thing is that all of these tools work without the need of electricity, like the foot powered lathe, and drill. Many tools can double as defensive items to help dispatch zombies.
Ottewell Homestead
More info coming
In order to survive a zombie apocalypse you'll need access to food, the Ottewell Homestead, a farm within the boundaries of Fort Edmonton Park, can provide this.
There are barns, pens, corrals and chicken coops already filled with animals to provide milk, eggs, meat, help, etc. Start a breeding program to ensure the longevity of the Homestead.
Millinery and Harness Shop
More info coming
The Hutchings and Riley Harness Shop, which occupies the lower floor, has all you need to make use of the multitude of horses that live at Fort Edmonton Park. Saddles, harnesses, and more.
Upstairs is home to the Kernohan's Millinery, where you will find not only a place to make a home, but everything you will need to make additional clothes as the years go by.
Lauder's Bakery & Residence
More info coming
The smaller, gray building on the left houses a bakery, where loaves of bread, and other baked goods, can be made in bulk by utilizing the baking ovens built into the wall.
The goods are then moved next door, where the Lauder's bake shop is located within their home. Great place to make an inventory of goods, especially in winter, when you can easily freeze the extras.
Drugstore and Dr. Office
More info coming
At the front of this Fort Edmonton Park building you will find Daly's Drugstore, where health concoctions and personal hygiene products can be found. Around back is Dr. Wilson's Office, an extremely important place.
The Dr. Office not only holds tools for operating, it also has many surgery and medical text books. Time to start studying, you are your own doctor now.
What's missing from this Fort Edmonton Park 1885 street overview?
A few spots are missing from this overview, which were left out due to space. They are:
Dominion Land Agency: If the park is currently secure, the Dominion Land Office (located beside and West of Kenneth McDonald House,) on 1885 Street, could offer a cozy little spot to reside, though you would need to bring something to sleep on. Also, if you're close by, and need something to defend yourself against zombies, there are a handful of items here that would work nicely: couple of axes, pickax, shovels, etc.
North West Mounted Police Outpost:: (Located between Kenneth McDonald House and Jasper House Hotel) With the massive windows that take up most of the front and back sections of wall, this isn't the place to make your home. It does provide heat and a place to warm up your food. Though the bed would best be relocated to another, safer building. Keep it as it was intended, as a guard house with a good view of the street in front and the field in back.
Byrnes Shoe Shop: (Located beside and West of Ross Brothers Hardware.) Nice, tiny little building with one tiny little window. Has a wood-burning stove and several tools that double as defensive weapons. Also, keep your shoes in shape--good shoes will be hard to come by.
Raymer's Jewellery Store: (Located between Ross Brothers Hardware and James McDonald's Carpentry Shop) Ground floor holds a wide-variety of "fancy" dishes and clocks, but not a lot to make use of here otherwise. Upstairs, where the only access is via stairs around the buildings back, could be a spot to hide out, but many other choices would be ahead of this one.
Bellerose School: (Located beside and East of James MacDonald's Carpentry Shop) Sparse building, but could work as a home. Wood burning stove provides heat and warm meals. However, there is only one entrance, which means possibly being stranded inside should zombies find your hiding spot. Small side-windows do provide other options of escape, but will leave you vulnerable as you climb through.
Bulletin Building: (Located beside and East of Ottewell Homestead.) As more survivors make their way to Fort Edmonton Park during the zombie apocalypse, you can utilize this building to put up notices for all to read. The Bulletin building also has a phone that ties into the park's internal communications network.
McDougall Methodist Church: (Located beside and East of Millinery and Harness Shop.) Best left as a house of prayer or for a night of singing and music with the foot powered organ. The weak door and large windows just aren't worth the time and resources needed to secure them.
